Cuesta Spikers Fall to Antelope Valley in Four, Host Mini-Tournament on Saturday

Cuesta Women's Volleyball fell to visiting Antelope Valley in four games (25-23, 23-25, 25-22, 26-24) to fall to 3-7 on the season. Despite the 3-1 deficit, the match hinged on a few key plays that, unfortunately, did not fall the Cougars way.  All four sets saw the momentum switch back-and-forth, only to land with the visiting Marauders three times.  Freshman Outside Hitter Katey Cramer led the Cougars with 17 kills, while 2021 all-WSC Middle Blocker Meredith Donovan added 11 kills of her own, but in a match this tight a lot comes down to ball control and serving.  The Cougars received quality serving Sophomore Southpaw Serah Basham and Freshman Raina Clifton, who each dropped three aces on the Marauders, yet, while the Cougars enjoyed some highlights, it was not enough to hold off Antelope Valley.  The loss drops the Cougars to 3-7 on the season.

Cuesta takes tomorrow off but is back in action on Friday to kick-off a flurry of non-conference matches before the start of conference play next Tuesday.  The Cougars travel to Culver City on Friday (6 PM) to play the WSC-South's West LA and also host a North-South Mini Tournament on Saturday.  The Cougars and WSC-North rival Santa Barbara City shall both square off against NorCal foes #6 Hartnell and Monterey Peninsula.  In the first round (1 PM), the Cougars face Hartnell, while Santa Barbara goes up against Monterey Peninsula, before switching partners in the second round (3 PM), when Cuesta plays Monterey Peninsula and Hartnell meets Santa Barbara.  The Cougars open WSC-North play next week by hosting Santa Barbara on Tuesday (6 PM)
