Unable to get control of the boards, the Cerritos College women's basketball team fell victim to crosstown rival Long Beach City College, 63-41 in a South Coast Conference South Division loss on Friday. The Falcons (7-13, 0-2), who dropped their fifth game in a row, will look to rebound in a divisional game at El Camino College on Wednesday.

The main culprit that hurt the Falcons was Donavion Huskey, who led all players with 28 points and 26 rebounds, with 20 of those boards coming in the first half. Every time Cerritos looked to make a run, it was Huskey who slowed them down by scoring points in bunches.

After a three-pointer from sophomore Sarah Hernandez (St. Paul HS) brought the team to within 47-34 with 8:12 left in the game, Cerritos was able to play evenly with the Vikings (12-8, 2-0). But a dry spell of 3:34 later in the quarter saw their deficit swell to 21 points, which was too much to for the Falcons to battle back from.

On the night, LB City out-rebounded the Falcons, 62-37, which included a 19-3 advantage on the offensive glass. If it wasn't Huskey pulling down key rebounds, it was Ivori Scott, who provided 13 points and 18 rebounds for the Vikings. By contrast the leading rebounders for Cerritos were Hernandez, Nicole Lizarraga (Cantwell Sacred-Heart HS), Melanie Lopez (Legacy HS) and Kayla Sta. Ana (St. Joseph HS), who all had five boards.

Hernandez and Precious Yerena (Downey HS) each scored 11 points, while Sta.Ana added seven points.
