Vikings Snap Cypress’s Winning-Streak in Thrilling 10-Inning Walk-Off Win

The Long Beach City College Vikings snapped Cypress College's undefeated winning-streak with a 8-7 walk-off win in extra innings. With the win, the Vikings advance to 7-2 overall.

Sophomore Daisy Torres (6-2) earned the win in the circle with only allowing the Chargers to three runs on four hits in five innings of work.

The Chargers were on the board in the top of the first with a two RBI single. Then in the bottom of the second, sophomore shortstop Jade Wittman smashed a two RBI single to bring in freshmen center fielder Alia Marquez and catcher Jaylene Ross to tie the game 2-2.

In the bottom of the fourth, freshman first baseman Brianna Nunez doubled to center field for three RBI to extend the Vikings lead to 5-2.

By the sixth inning, the Chargers tied the game at 5-5. The Vikings rallied in the bottom of the sixth and with bases loaded, Nunez hit an RBI ground out to score in Wittman, then freshman second basemen Jennifer Aguilar hit an RBI single to score in freshman pinch runner Jasmine Delgado to bounce back in the lead 7-5.

The Chargers scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game again at 7-7. By the bottom of the tenth inning, the Vikings had enough and loaded the bases. Sophomore right fielder Noelany Benitez was at the plate and got a hit-by-pitch RBI to walk-off the Vikings with the 8-7 win.

The Vikings will be back on the field on Tuesday, Feb. 22 against El Camino College at 3 p.m.
