Baseball Drops Game One Of Playoff Series to Cypress

Bakersfield, CA – The Bakersfield College baseball team hosted Cypress College in the first round of the CCCAA Southern Regional Playoffs at Gerry Collis Field and fell in game one of the best of three series, 11-4.

The Chargers jumped out with the lead with two quick runs in the top of the first, followed by three more in the top of the second to go up 5-0.

They added one run in the fourth and four in the fifth to increase the lead to 10-0.

It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth that the Renegades moved runners across the plate for the first time in the game. They both came off a Sage Voda high fly ball to short center field that was lost amongst three Cypress defenders and dropped on the ground allowing Voda to take second and Trey Harmon and Hector Ruvalcaba to score.

Ruvalcaba brought Hunter Adams home in the bottom of the seventh on a single to right field, Harmon scored on a fielding error by the Cypress right fielder on the play as well.

In the top of the ninth Cypress added an insurance run to go up 11-4, a score that would become final three outs later.

Alejandro Murillo started the game on the mound for the Renegades. He went four complete innings before Frankie Villasenor came out in to relieve in the fifth and finish the game.

With the loss, BC is now down 0-1 in the series to Cypress and will look to bounce back with a win to stay alive in game two tomorrow morning at 11am at Gerry Collis Field.
