SANTA ANA, Calif. – Although the No. 11 Dons matched the No. 7 Riverside Tigers in hits with 11 for the game, they were outscored 19-6 in game two of their three game series on Thursday afternoon.
Santa Ana committed a season high six errors on top of hitting five batters and walking another seven. The miscues led to a season high 19 runs scored by an opponent with just eight of them being earned.
Most of the damage came in the third inning as the Tigers capitalized on an error and three walks to post seven runs, giving them a 9-1 lead.
The Dons fought back with two runs in the bottom of the third as well as a few more runs throughout the game but couldn't keep up in this one, leading to their 11th loss of the season.
Jacob Ayala got his third start of the year and lasted two and a third innings, striking out four and conceding two earned runs. He would take the loss to fall to a record of 1-4 in 14 appearances.
At the plate, Grant Askins had himself a solid day, going 2-2 with a walk and a couple RBI's highlighted by a homerun to right field in the seventh inning.
Frank Garcia, Raymond Villanueva and Copper Hansen all collected two hits a piece with Villanueva and Hansen adding one RBI each.
