Cougars Shutout Oxnard to Open WSC Play, 1-0

Women's Soccer opened its 2021 Western State Conference schedule with a home win over Oxnard, 1-0.  The Cougars and Condors battled up and down the pitch for almost a full ninety minutes, until Cuesta's Taylor Kirk (Atascadero HS) corralled a high, bouncing pass from teammate Brenna Canepa (Sonora HS) and put away the game's only score.  Kirk's goal was the Cougars' 20th shot of the game and helped the Cuesta snap a four-game slide.  2019 All-WSC First Team Goalkeeper Magaly Avila (Paso Robles HS) turned away five shots by the Condors in the first half, while Freshman Sadie Magpie (Morro Bay HS) kept the nets clean with five saves of her own in the second-half to complete the shutout. The Cougars improved to 2-4 on the season and are 1-0 in WSC play.

The Cougars are on the road this Friday (7 PM) for a Western State Conference game under the lights at Santa Barbara City's La Playa Stadium.
