Mt. SAC Women’s Soccer shuts out Rio Hondo, 4-0 in SCC action

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer team opened South Coast Conference action with a 4-0 shutout over visiting Rio Hondo on Tuesday (Oct. 4).

Mt. SAC sophomore midfielder Karissa Vela led the Mounties with a goal and an assist.

The No. 2 CCCSIA State-ranked Mounties (9-1, 1-0), who took a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half, opened the scoring in the third minute with a goal from Vela on an assist from sophomore defender Kayla Allen.

Twelve minutes later, (15th minute) sophomore midfielder Kaylee Gutierrez scored an unassisted goal for the 2-0 lead.

Sasha Lopez, on an assist from Vela, stretched the lead to 3-0 in the 34th minute.

The only goal of the second half came in the 65th minute by freshman defender Kassandra Enriquez, assisted by Fatima Arnold.

The Mountie defense allowed only two shots on goal and Leila Peregrina recorded the win.

The Mounties continue SCC action with a game at Compton on Friday (October 7).
