Wolverines Can't Find Equalizer in Defeat

After not scoring for the past three games, the San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team found the back of the net Friday night against Bakerfield College at SBVC Stadium.

Unfortunately, the SBVC goal was sandwiched between two first half goals from the Renegades, as the Wolverines fell 2-1 in the nonconference game.

After falling behind in the 14th minute, the Wolverines responded just over a minute later. Raymond Fernandez collected a long cross on the left wing, stepped into the penalty area and fired a shot goalkeeper Adrian Sandoval to tie the game at 1.

But about 10 minutes later, the Renegades regained the lead. Set up with a free kick about 26 yards out, Ricky Nino stepped up and fired a shot over the wall into top corner of the SBVC goal and the 2-1 lead.

The Wolverines pressed forward looking for the equalizer. But Sandoval turned away four second half shots, and Ebrima Njie had another shot bounce off the post in the 82nd minute, as the Wolverines could not find a tying goal.

Brian Orozco made three saves for San Bernardino Valley.
