SOFTBALL: EXTRA INNING SHOWDOWN

The No. 11 Fullerton College softball team hosted No. 5 Palomar College on Tuesday and lost in 10 innings to the Comets 3-2.

In the top of the second, Palomar touched FC with 3 doubles that scored 2 runs. Megan Wachholtz got on base doubling down the left field line, and Allie Hughen traded places with her. Rylee Penrod hit a hard shot to right center bringing Hughen home.

The Hornets cut it down 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a shot to right center field by Lulu Vasquez that brought Kaylee Williamson, who had crushed a double to right field.

Fullerton tied the game up at 2 apiece in the bottom sixth when Khloe Lilavois crushed a double off of the center field fence. Kaylee Williamson (3-4 on the day) came up and landed a single to center field scoring Hunter Williams, who pinch ran for Lilavois.

Still tied 2-2 in the bottom of the top of the tenth and the sun going down, both coaches agreed to play international rules by placing a runner on second at the start of the inning. Hughen, the last out from the previous inning was place on second. Jenny Lafayette pinch hit for Penrod and SAC bunted Hughen to third. With one out, McKenna Crawford grounded out to second, but not before  Hughen scored from third.

FC did not have an answer during their final at-bat and lost a tough one to one of the best teams in the state. 

Up Next: The Hornets (1-1 overall) will open up Orange Empire Conference-play tomorrow, February 13th at Riverside City College. The first pitch goes out at 3:00 pm.
