The San Diego City women's soccer team took its first lead of the season in the first half against Irvine Valley on Tuesday, but the Lasers equalized early in the second half and then went on to win, 2-1, after scoring the game-winner in the 90th minute.
The Knights fell to 0-4 on the season, but first-year Head Coach Tony Arnesen has them showing promise going into the PCAC season, which begins on the road at Mesa on Friday at 7 p.m.
Tatiana Idarza broke a scoreless tie in the 25th minute when she put in a cross from Marisol Guerrero. It was Guerrero's second consecutive game with an assist off a cross from the left side of the box.
City goalkeeper Andrea Kumano, who had seven saves on Tuesday, stopped all six shots on goal from Irvine Valley in the first half as she did her best to hold the Lasers scoreless.
But in the 56th minute, IVC was able to get the equalizer on a goal from Amanda Kutcher.
Both teams had scoring opportunities late in the game, but it was Irvine Valley that was able to pull the game out with a goal in the 90th minute. Kutcher's shot from the left side was saved by Kumano, but Hope Carr was there to put in the rebound and give the Lasers the 2-1 win.
