Jumping out to an early lead against host Cypress College on Wednesday should have given the Cerritos College volleyball team confidence moving forward. But the Falcons (1-2) were unable to maintain that momentum and dropped a four-set match to the Chargers, 25-18, 15-25, 11-25, 19-25 for their second loss in a row. The team will return home on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference match against Santiago Canyon College. Cerritos won their only other home match of the season.

Sophomore Brooke Winquist (Carlsbad International School/Czechia) led the team with 11 kills, as the Falcons had seven different players register at least one kill. They put away Cypress (2-1) in the first set, but struggled to string together any points in the next two sets. They stayed close in the third set, but didn't have as much depth as the Chargers, who had two players with multiple-digit kills.

The duo of sophomores Sierra Hernandez-Hardy (Bishop Amat HS) and Alexia Torres (Downey HS) combined for 13 kills, with Hernandez-Hardy pacing the team with 11 digs. Sophomore setter Mirka Granoble (Downey HS) added four kills to go along with her 31 assists and six digs, with freshman Jackie Dixon (Gahr HS) adding six kills and 10 digs. Freshman Marissa Reyna (Norwalk HS) also posted 10 digs on the night.
