On Thursday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 South Coast Conference loss at the hands of College of the Desert. The loss drops the Falcons record to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in conference action. The team will host El Camino College next Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in another conference match.

The day started with doubles action, with the Falcons battling the Roadrunners in three close matches. Although Desert won all three, the duos of freshmen Stephanie Vega and Melissa Mayorga (El Rancho HS), along with freshmen Mikaela Ramirez (La Mirada HS) and Andrea Antonio (Garfield HS) extended them to 8-5 scores.

It was a different story in singles, as the top two players on the ladder, freshmen Samantha Sanchez (Bellflower HS) and Clara Kim (Warren HS), each failed to win a game. Mayorga recorded the team's lone point with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Sariah Sanchez in the #4 position on the ladder. Antonio went to a tie-breaker against Emily Gallegos, but fell, 4-6, 7-5, 2-10.
