Trailing Marin 6-5 with six minutes remaining in the third quarter, the West Valley women's water polo team reeled off ten consecutive goals to claim a 15-6 Coast Conference victory Wednesday at the West Valley Aquatics Center.

Missing the state's leading scorer, Johanna Scheer (illness), and key attacker Aaliyah Lax (injury), the Vikings (17-1, 4-0 Coast) didn't catch fire offensively until they fell behind the Mariners (3-2, 3-1) at the 6:13 mark in the third. Three goals from Maria Higginbotham and one each from Fatima Gonzalez Garcia and Marija Mijuskovic erased the deficit and gave the Vikings a 10-6 lead heading into the fourth. WVC outscored Marin 5-0 in the quarter on goals from Gaby Thomas, Kate Craig, Paige McCroskey and two from Marie Lucquet to secure the win.

Higginbotham, Lucquet and Thomas finished with a game-high three goals apiece, followed by Craig with two and one each from Gonzalez Garcia, McCroskey, Mijuskovic, and Phan. Grace Smith started in goal and stopped four Mariner shots in the opening quarter. Kiana Melvin took over in the cage in the second and had three saves to earn the win.

The Vikings host City College of San Francisco (0-4, 0-2) Oct. 13. The ball drops at 3:00pm.
