Jade Henry silenced the Eagles with a two-out, 3-run homerun over left-center field in the bottom of the third inning, making the score 10-0. She went 3-3 with 4 RBIs and hit a single, a double, and a home run. Just a triple away from hitting a cycle.
"The first pitch came, and it was outside, a little low," said Henry. "I swung at it, and I wiped it off. I wanted to compose myself and have fun out there. The second pitch came in, I didn't really know where it was, but as soon as I swung, I felt it off my bat. I just knew it was gone."
Alaina Valdez, Lady Jags' starting pitcher, established the dominating tone for the game by striking out the leadoff batter. Valdez struck out four batters, no walks, and allowed one hit in 3 innings with no earned runs.
Bella Caruso-Commisso drove the ball up the middle to score the first two runs of the game in the first inning, followed by four straight hits in the second inning to lead 6-0. Before Henry hit her 3-run homerun, Lady Jags scored one run in the third inning to 7-0.
Chelsea Rayment relieved Valdez at the top of the 4th inning and started her season with a strikeout. Rayment had two strikeouts, no walks, and allowed one hit with no earned runs. She even took a line drive to the chest at the top of the 5th inning and still managed to complete the game.
It was a great first Jag win to start the season.
