MOORPARK – The SBCC softball team got back to its winning ways with a 5-2 victory over Moorpark in its third Western State Conference game of the season.

The Vaqueros (11-3, 2-1) jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the third. After the first two innings yielded one hit each for SBCC, Elliana Ryan kickstarted the offense with her first home run of the season to put her team up 2-0. Pitcher Joslyn Soinila also scored after reaching on a Raider error.

Santa Barbara followed that up immediately with back-to-back doubles, first from left fielder Sarah Hammonds and then from shortstop Jessica Reveles, making it 3-0.

The Raiders pulled within one with a pair of fourth inning runs, but SBCC would be the only team to score the rest of the way. Reveles led off the sixth with a double and third baseman Mellanie Barth later notched an RBI with a ground ball that the Moorpark defense couldn't cleanly turn into an out.

After second baseman Emma Hatcher doubled to open the seventh, Hammonds completed her day with an RBI single to give the Vaqueros a 5-2 lead. Soinila closed out her seven innings of work in the circle by getting a fly out and two pop ups on Moorpark's three at bats in the bottom of the seventh.

Hammonds and Reveles tied for team-high honors with two hits apiece.
