Comets bounce back to win on the road

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (9/14/2022) -- Palomar women's volleyball hit the road to face No. 24 Golden West College and drove home victorious after a 3-2 win over the Rustlers in a heated battle.

Down two sets to none, the Comets boarded the rally train and won the third set 25-20 to force a fourth. In a win-or-go-home situation, the Comets pushed the Rustlers in set four in a back-and-forth battle. The Comets pulled out the 28-26 set win and headed to the fifth set. Neither team was going to go quietly and in the end, Palomar won 20-18. The Comets battled all the way back to take down the Rustlers. 

Freshman Savanna Lewis led all Comets with 20 kills, while freshman Holland Hancock recorded 10. Sophomore setter Kenna Broach dished out 43 assists on the night. 

The win snaps the Comets two-game losing streak. Last week Palomar faced Saddleback College at home in the Dome and lost 3-1, but not before battling through an epic second set (Bobcats won 30-28) and bouncing back in set three (25-20) to force a fourth set. Hancock recorded nine kills, while sophomore Brynn Wallander had eight. Hancock also recorded 11 digs. 

The Comets sit at 4-2 on the season, their best start to the season since 2014, and are set to face Grossmont College to open Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play on Friday at Grossmont. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
