LONG BEACH – Long Beach City College continues to prove deserving of its No. 1 ranking in the state by the California Community College Men's Volleyball Coaches Association.
On Friday, the Vikings overwhelmed visiting Santa Barbara City College 3-0 to extend their winning streak to 13 consecutive matches. LBCC has swept its last 10 opponents and has lost just a total of five sets over 15 contests this season.
Long Beach defeated No. 8 Santa Barbara by scores of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-15 to improve to 14-1 overall and remain perfect in Western State Conference play at 9-0.
Matthew Pennala led the Vikings' offense with 13 kills while Georgi Binev totaled 12 kills, 3 aces, and 7 digs. Julian Zavala posted 19 digs, Sean Nguyen had 41 assists, and Cian Slade contributed 7 kills and 3 blocks.
The Vikings are back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 5) when they travel to No. 10-ranked Antelope Valley College for a 6 p.m. conference match.
