SAC Women’s Soccer Advances with 2-1 OT Thriller Over Cuesta

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – After traveling four hours up the 101 north freeway, the Santa Ana women's soccer team battled it out with the 14th seeded Cuesta Cougars (14-5-2) in a 2019 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) SoCal Regional Play-In Game.

It took more than the normal 90 minutes to decide this one, as the two teams went to double over time with the score tied at 1-1.

Right before time was set to expire in OT and send the match into penalty kicks, sophomore forward Linda Gutierrez found the back of the net at the 1:19th minute to lift the Dons a 2-1 win. Gutierrez also scored the first goal of the match (64th minute) on an assist from Leyna Wood, giving her 14 goals on the season, including four game winners.

The Dons advance to round one of the CCCAA SoCal Regionals and will be on the road against a familiar foe in No. 3 seeded Santiago Canyon College on Saturday, Nov. 23rd at 2:00 p.m.
