Cuesta Women's Water Polo re-boots its season this weekend with the 22nd MidState Women's Water Polo Classic. The event, although smaller this year, has returned from its one-year pandemic hiatus to re-establish itself as the premier women's tournament in the State. All eight teams in the tournament were 2019 playoff teams, including State Semi-Finalist West Valley and, still, defending CCCAA State Champion Fullerton. The Cougars have spent the past two weeks preparing for the tournament, after getting hit hard with the injury bug. The Cougars were compelled to drop out of the second day of the West Valley Tournament two weeks ago and skipped the Cabrillo Tournament last weekend. The Cougars should be back at full strength this weekend and ready to test their mettle against the best. Cuesta opens the tournament on Friday (10 AM) with a Western State Conference contest against 2019 Regional Semi-Finalist Santa Barbara City. The Cougars also end the first day against defending State Champion Fullerton (2 PM). On Saturday the Cougars face Cypress (8 AM) and close-out the tournament with a re-match against San Joaquin Delta (1:25). Cuesta's last full game, on September 17, was a loss to the Mustangs, 17-6, at the West Valley Tournament. Delta was also a 2019 Regional Semi-Finalist, although they are part of the Northern California Regional. The Cougars are 4-4 on the season.
