MSJC's Taylor Filippi and her Eagle teammates opened the 2020 softball season at home Monday as they hosted Santa Ana College.

The MSJC softball team began their 2020 season on Monday afternoon with a home game against Santa Ana on the Menifee Campus with the Dons winning the contest 18-4.

The Dons got off to a fast start as they were able to score six runs in the first inning.  They would go on to build the lead to 11-0 through 2 and 1/2 before the Eagles struck for 4 runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Makayla Ulloa drove in MSJC's first run of 2020 when she singled to right field to score Julissa Ledesma, who had earned the team's first hit of the game earlier in the inning.  Destiny Sanchez followed with a 2 run single to center that pushed Myra Rivera and Taylor Filippi across the plate.  Gianna Gonzalez rounded out the MSJC scoring on the day when she hit an RBI ground out to second base scoring Ulloa.

Santa Ana ended the day with 13 hits while the Eagles were limited to 4, all coming in the third inning.  The game was the season opener for both teams with the Dons improving to 1-0 while MSJC falls to 0-1.  The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to San Marcos to take on Palomar College in a non-conference game.  First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 2 pm.  MSJC will be back at home Wednesday February 5th when they host Grossmont at 3 o'clock on the Menifee Campus.
