Beach Volleyball Prepared For PCAC Season With Matches Against Div. I, II, NAIA Teams
San Diego City's women's beach volleyball team got the 2020 season started with tournaments in Florida and Arizona against Division I, Division II, and NAIA schools. The Knights went 1-7 in those matches, but faced tough competition that should prepare them well for the upcoming Pacific Coast Athletic Conference season, which begins on March 20.

The first four matches were played on the campus of Florida International University in Miami, Fla. on February 29 and 29.
San Diego City opened that tournament with a 3-2 win over NAIA school Florida Memorial University in which the No. 1 freshman team of Debbie Powers/Hillary Williamson, the No. 2 sophomore team of Alina Fletes/Kareemah Hopkins, and the No. 3 freshman team of Ashley Stone/Jacque Ortegon won their matches in three sets each.
The next match against Division I school University of New Orleans was cut short due to rain, but the Knights fell 0-3.
The following day, San Diego City faced NAIA school Webber International University where former Knight Julia Ferraro plays. The No. 2 team of Debbie Powers/Hillary Williamson got the only win of the match as the Knights fell, 4-1.
City took on the University of Tampa (Div. II) in the final match and lost, 5-0. The Knights had one more match scheduled against host Florida International, but it wasn't played because of bad weather.
The Knights headed to Phoenix, Ariz. the following weekend (March 6 & 7) to face stiffer competition at a tournament hosted by Grand Canyon University.
City played Div. I schools Albilene Christian and Houston Baptist on the first day and lost 4-1 and 5-0, respectively. The Knights were swept, 5-0, on the second day by Div. I teams Cal Poly and Grand Canyon.
The Knights will start PCAC matches on Friday, March 20 against Mesa at 9:00 a.m. and Grossmont afterwards. Both matches will be play on Mesa's campus.
