KNIGHTS' VOLLEYBALL LOSES TWICE IN OPENING WEEKEND

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College lost both matches at home on Friday in the season-opening weekend of the Shasta Classic.

The Knights were swept by Southwestern Oregon Community College 25-19, 25-18, 25-7 and lost in five sets to Los Medanos 25-20, 25-15, 20-25, 13-25, 15-8.

The Knights recorded 13 kills and 12 errors in the match for a kill percentage of .013 percent. Sophomore outside hitter Presley Hamilton led the way with five kills for Shasta while freshman Emmarae Westphal totaled three kills. Sophomore Sanaii Cooper registered a team-high 12 digs and freshman setter Kiara Yao and sophomore setter Macey Bunn distributed five assists a piece.

The Knights dropped the first two sets but forced a deciding fifth set before falling at home. Hamilton and Westphal both totaled double-digit kills with 11 and 10, respectively. Freshman libero Brooke Vaughan racked up 20 digs while Bunn dished 24 assists to go with a team-high six service aces. Cooper added two solo blocks in the loss.

Shasta (0-2) is back in action Friday at the Diablo Valley Classic against DVC and Yuba College.
