San Diego City's Alexia Moreno scored the Knights' first goal of the season on Friday, but it wasn't enough as they fell to Victor Valley, 3-1.
The Knights dropped to 0-3 in 2019, but have shown improvement over the three games so far.
On Friday, Victor Valley scored all three of its goals in a 17-minute span during the first half. It was looking like the Knights were in for a long match, but their defense stepped up and did not allow another goal.
City goalkeeper Andrea Kumano saved seven of Victor Valley's 10 shots on goal, increasing her total to 21 saves on the season.
The Knights' offense looked much better in the second half as they got off 11 shots after taking only one in the first half. They then finally broke through in the 59th minute when Moreno knocked in a one-timer off a cross from Marisol Guerrero.
City kept firing away, but was unable to get more goals on the board as Victor Valley hung on for its first win.
San Diego City has played all three of its games at home so far and will play one more on Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Irvine Valley.
