Despite a late challenge by Santa Monica College, Citrus College held on for a 12-11 victory to take third place at the Western State Conference Tournament Saturday.

The Owls improve to 9-22 overall, while the Corsairs slip to 9-19.

Jullian Nichols finished with six goals for the Owls, while Logan Haberle and Nathan Salcedo each added a pair of goals. Rolan Solis and Eric Ramirez also rattled in goals for the Owls.

After each team scored three goals in the first, Citrus came out in the second and netted three-consecutive goals, including two from Nichols. Haberle tucked in a shot with less than a minute in the quarter to give the Owls an 8-6 upper hand at halftime.

Santa Monica came out of the break and scored three-straight goals to jump in front with three minutes left in the frame, but Nichols and Salcedo capitalized in the final 90 seconds of the quarter to put the Owls back in the lead.

Nichols added a goal halfway through the fourth, which proved to be enough as Citrus held on for the 12-11 victory.
