The Chabot women's team (2-0) stayed sharp to open the season with a rousing 2-0 win over visiting Siskiyous on Sept. 6.

A pleased Gladiators coach Markus Bathelt said his side dominated much of the match, taking 15 shots, but had a difficult time finishing overall. After five or six attempts on goal, Chabot broke through when Kenia Hernandez scored from close range after Mariela DeLeon shot off the post.

Chabot continued to work hard and apply steady attacking pressure as the contest unfolded. They finally struck again in the 89th minute when Isabel Ayala Barriga scored on a majestic 20-yard direct free kick into the upper left corner.

Bathelt lauded the play of excellent goalkeeper Abby Burnell, who faced about two shots but came off her line well to wipe out any attacks by clearing the ball.

"Our defense with mostly the center-defense combination of Alexa Flores and Ariana Umildad had a solid performance and also helped Abby deliver her first shutout of the season," Bathelt shared via email.
