Softball Blanks Eagles and Wolverines In Mini Tournament

Cuesta Softball cruised through their mini tournament against LA Mission and San Bernardino Valley with a pair of shutouts.  The Cougars opened the day with a re-match against LA Mission, who spoiled the Cougars' season opener on Friday with a 4-0 win.  Cuesta turned the tables on the Eagles with a shutout of their own, 6-0, behind Sophomore Hurler Leea Brown (Tulelake HS).  The Cougars announced their presence early with Brown setting down the Eagles in order in the first inning and the Cougars putting up three runs in their first at-bat.  Brown did the rest as she set down the first 11 Eagles she faced and allowed only five hits during the whitewash.  In the nightcap, Freshman Pitcher Jillian Davis (Jackson) complemented her own great day at the plate with a six-inning, run-rule, shutout against San Bernardino Valley, 8-0.  Davis allowed only three hits to the Wolverines, while collecting two for herself to aid the Cougars' cause.  She joined 2021 Team MVP Madelyn Mata (Sanger HS) and the Cougars' double-play combination of Second Baseman Megan Ingle (Templeton HS) and Alura Neill (Felton) with a team leading three hits on the day.

The Cougars are 2-1 on the season and play a doubleheader at Reedley next Tuesday (12/2 PM)
