Softball: Vasquez and Carpio Tally Two Hits Each in Game One; Offense is No Hit in Game Two

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Golden West softball team came into today's doubleheader confident that they could earn their first victory of the season, the Pirates of Orange Coast thwarted that idea with a 8-1 and 14-1 doubleheader sweep.

Game one saw Sara Carpio and Jasmine Vasquez lead the offense with two hits each, problem was the offense only had five hits total. Starting pitcher, Michelle Sheedy pitched well in the circle as her defense committed three costly errors en route to the 8-1 loss. Sheedy threw a complete game surrendering eight runs (five earned) on 11 hits, two walks, and one strikeout.

Game two was a tough loss as the offense was held hit-less and the defense imploded, committing six errors en route to the 14-1 mercy rule loss in five innings. Sennie Viramontes got the start in the cirlce, lasting three innings while giving up six runs (one earned) on seven hits. Viramontes was replaced by Brittany Seely in the fourth inning who held the Pirates scorless in the that frame but then got touched up in the fifth inning for eight runs on six hits while the defense committed two costly errors that would have ended the inning with minimal damage. Orange Coast's starter Madison Knight threw a five inning no hitter, walking two and giving up her lone run on a saftey squeeze in the fourth inning.

NEXT: Golden West will host Fullerton College on Wednesday, May 5th for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1pm.
