COD Women's Soccer grabs win over Tartars on Murguia PK, 2-1

COD (4-3) had a strong defense all game and all of their goals in the second half, as Ashley Murguia converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute to secure a road win at the Compton Tartars (2-1-1), 2-1.

Compton would open up the scoring in the 74th minute and the Roadrunners would equalize in the 78th minute on a goal by sophomore midfielder Ashley Murguia (Indio H.S.), tying the game at 1-1.

In the 84th minute, Desert was awarded a penalty kick and Murguia put the game winner in the back of the net, giving the Roadrunners a 2-1 win on the road.

Freshman goal keeper Jessica Uribe (Indio Shadow Hills) faced ten total shots, eight on goal, making seven saves in the win.

The Roadrunners first played Compton on 2010 and have a 3-4-1 record against the Tartars, including 2-2-1 record in Compton. The last time Desert defeated the Tartars, prior to Friday, was in 2016, which was also the most recent time that these teams played against one another.
