Bobcats too much for Vaqueros

The Saddleback softball team won its second straight game with a 5-1 victory over Glendale College on Monday night at the Saddleback diamond.  The Bobcats never trailed in the game.

Saddleback took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning when Glendale made a bundle of defensive miscues to allow the Bobcats to score a pair of runs.  Saddleback then increased the lead to 3-0 in the bottom half of the second inning when Isabella Harris singled home Alyssa Jimenez, who had led off the inning with a single.

Saddleback added solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings as the lead grew to 5-0.  The final run came when Jasmine Uitz singled home Desiree McGruder, who had hit safely earlier in the inning.

Harris, Uitz, McGruder and Ivy Vasquez (pictured) all had two hits in the game as the Bobcats outhit the Vaqueros 9-3 on the evening.

McGruder started on the mound and pitched into the seventh inning before giving way to Vasquez for the final two outs of the game.  McGruder evened her record at 3-3 with the win, striking out three while walking none.  McGruder dropped her season ERA to 2.22 following the win and has now walked just four batters in 28.1 innings of work.

With the win, Saddleback is now 3-3 on the season.  The Bobcats will open Orange Empire Conference play on Wednesday when they host Santa Ana College.  The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
