M. SOCCER: SOPHOMORE DAY ENDS IN A TIE

It was Sophomore Day for the Hornets on Friday, who played Santiago Canyon College to a 3-3 tie in Orange Empire Conference action.

Fullerton took on its 5th tie in conference-play leaving the team at 3-3-5 in the OEC, while Santiago Canyon lands at 2-5-3.

The first two goals of the game were had by the Hawks, who put the Hornets in 0-2 hole. Int eh 12th minute, the first goal slipped by on an odd kick that high-bounced into the net by Stephan Rivera (unassisted). SCC's second goal came in the 21st minute on a deflected shot that squeezed between the crossbar and the goal keeper's hands.

FC struck back in the 32nd minute on Erik Estrada's shot from 15-yards out. The assist came from Giovanni Marsh.

Ryan Meinardus kicked a liner from 30-yards into the back of the net tying the game up at 2-2. Estrada was again in on the action with the assist.

At the 83-minute mark it looked as if Fullerton sealed the game when Tanner Coombs came in with a sliding assist to Joseph Espinoza, who kicked the ball in putting FC up 3-2.

With mere seconds on the clock, Santiago Canyon brought its goalie out of the box to the Hornet's end of the field to aid on a last-ditch effort corner kick for the tie. It worked. Hawk's Goal Keeper Lucas Clarida took the rebound from Stephan Rivera quick-kicking the ball into the net.

GK Andres Ramirez had 5 saves in the box for the Hornets.

Before the game, 14 sophomores were honored by the FC coaching staff for their dedication and hard work. Those sophmores honored were Jonathan Aleman, Brian Alvarez, Kevan Aragon,  Gerardo Leon-Camberos, Travis Coombs, Erik Estrada, Arnold Gomez, Pablo Lozano, Giovanni Marsh, Ryan Meinardus, Steve Perez, Andres Ramirez, Eduardo Ramirez, and DJ Westwood.

Up Next: Fullerton (9-5-6 overall, 3-3-5 OEC) hits the road against Cypress next Friday, November 12th for the last regular game of the season. Game time is at 3:00 pm.
