Women's badminton team beats Pasadena City, halts win streak

Irvine Valley's women's badminton team has been hosted into a new conference for the 2022 season.

And the Lasers stopped a South Coast Conference win streak that started in 2015.

Pasadena City had won 51 straight matches in the conference.

But the Lasers battled and won three of the four matches that went to three sets and pulled off a 14-7 victory at PCC's Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

The Lasers improved their record to 3-2 overall and 3-0 in conference.

Irvine Valley came through in matches that went three sets, winning three of the four to help in the victory.

Pasadena (1-2 overall, 1-1 now in conference) had undefeated conference runs to the SCC crown in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, won three matches in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season, and had captured its 2022 SCC opener before the Lasers finally halted the impressive streak.

PCC trailed 10-7 going into the final round of doubles, needing to win both to keep the streak alive. However, Irvine Valley's top two duos swept PCC's  No. 1 and  No. 2 pairs.

The last time Pasadena faced IVC was in the 2018 Southern California championship match, won by the Lancers, 15-6. PCC went on to win its second consecutive CCCAA state title.

The last time Pasadena lost in SCC play was on April 23, 2014, the final day of that season, 16-5, against East Los Angeles. Ho became the program's head coach the following season.
