KNIGHTS OPEN SEASON WITH SWEEP OF FOLSOM LAKE

 

FOLSOM LAKE, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team opened the season with a road doubleheader sweep over Folsom Lake, winning 11-2 and 7-1 on Wednesday.

In the opener, the Knights collected 13 with five players having multi-hit games and exploding for seven runs in the first two innings. Tara George went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored to lead the way. Erica Parent was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run, Destinee Baird was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs, Brooke Blades was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs, Alyssa Kosta was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run and Reese Bertain was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

Riley Rupert got the win in the circle, tossing a complete-game, allowing two runs on seven hit with seven strikeouts. She also hit a triple in the game.

In the nightcap, Shasta attacked early on again with a five-run first inning and cruised the rest of the way, finishing with 12 hits.

Parent was 3 for 5 with a triple, an RBI, a stolen base and scored twice. Baird was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run, George was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Kosta was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run. Hannah Apple had a double and an RBI.

Carli Lewis got the win for Shasta to move to 1-0, striking out six and allowing one earned run on four hits in seven innings.

Saturday's two games at Santa Rosa Junior College were postponed due to weather. Shasta College plays two games in Fairfield against Cosumnes River and Solano on Saturday.
