After spotting host College of the Canyons a 7-0 lead, the Cerritos College softball team generated some late offense, but it wasn't enough in their 7-5 non-conference loss on Friday. The Falcons (7-6) loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning with two outs, but freshman second baseman Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS) popped up to end the game. The team will play home games on four straight days this week, with the first being a 3:00 p.m. South Coast Conference contest against East Los Angeles College.

In the loss to the Cougars (3-2-1), a leadoff home run by Ashley Sandoval-Cola put the team behind early, while a pair of runs in the third inning, followed by four more in the fourth inning put the team against the ropes. The trio of sophomores Kayla Klein (La Habra HS/Texas A&M University) and Lily Cornejo (Paramount HS), along with freshman Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) combined to allow 15 hits, with Klein getting the loss on the day.

In their four-run fifth inning, a bases loaded single by freshman third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) was followed by a two-run single from sophomore first baseman Andrea Arellano (Downey HS). After the second out was recorded, sophomore shortstop Ashley Miller (West Torrance HS/North Platte, NE CC) delivered an RBI base hit. The team left runners on first and third to end the sixth inning and the bases loaded in the seventh. They also stranded a runner at third base in the first and third innings.
