Softball: Roadrunners fall in extra innings at Long Beach

Rio Hondo College was three outs from a win. After battling for seven scoreless innings, the Roadrunners were able to take advantage of a Long Beach City College error to score the potential game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning.

But the Vikings rallied for two runs, getting a walk-off double, to hand Rio Hondo a 2-1 South Coast Conference defeat at LBCC on Tuesday.

Madeline Peralta turned in one of her finest pitching efforts of the season for the Roadrunners, keeping a potent Long Beach offense off the board while scattering six hits over seven innings.

But in the bottom of the eighth, Peralta allowed a lead-off single, walk, and game-winning double to LBCC's Maria Aguilar to end the contest.

Rio Hondo totaled five hits off Long Beach pitcher Noelany Benitiez. Azucena Enriquez went 2 for 3 to lead the Roadrunners at the plate.

The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 2-17-1 overall and 0-10 in conference play. The Roadrunners will look to snap a 13-game losing streak on Thursday (Mar. 14) when they host Compton College in a 3 p.m. SCC game.
