Men’s Basketball: Mims scores 26 points in loss at El Camino

Rio Hondo College sophomore John Mims scored a season-high 26 points but the Roadrunners couldn't hold a late lead and fell 70-66 at El Camino College in a South Coast Conference interdivision on Wednesday night.

The Roadrunners held a commanding 30-18 lead at halftime and were up by nine points, 59-50, with 6:23 left in the contest after an Aaron Patterson jumper. But El Camino (4-13 overall) responded with a 15-2 run over the next five minutes to steal the victory. Darrian Williams-You's layup with 2:44 to play gave the Warriors the lead for good at 61-60.

Patterson posted a double-double for the Roadrunners, collecting 14 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. Bryant Howing added 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Rio Hondo fell to 3-16 overall and has lost 11 consecutive games. The Roadrunners will look to snap that streak on Friday (Jan. 17) at 6 p.m. when they host Los Angeles Southwest College in a South Coast Conference crossover game.
