Women’s Tennis: Rio Hondo sweeps Mt. San Jacinto 6-0 in home opener

WHITTIER --- After playing its first three matches of the season on the road, the Rio Hondo College women's tennis team made its 2022 home debut a memorable one. The Roadrunners won all their matches in a 6-0 South Coast Conference victory over visiting Mt. San Jacinto College on Tuesday.

Since dropping its first match of the season, Rio Hondo is unbeaten over its last three and with Tuesday win, improved to 3-1-1 overall.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Nicole Lule and Daisy Haro was an 8-4 winner while the No. 2 squad of Ocena Velasquez and Nadia Santoyo were victorious at 8-0.

In singles, Lule at No. 1 was a 6-2, 6-1 winner, Haro defeated her opponent at No. 2 by scores of 6-3, 6-0, Velasquez picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Santoyo cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 17) when the Roadrunners travel to College of the Desert in Palmdale for a 2 p.m. South Coast Conference match.
