College of the Canyons freshman Brooke Chambers was able to convert on a penalty kick in stoppage time but it wasn't enough, as the Cougars lost 2-1 at the hands of visiting Moorpark College.
Coming into the match Canyons (2-2) had won back-to-back games, including a 2-1 result over No. 12 San Bernardino Valley College last Friday.
Moorpark (5-0) wasted little time getting on the board with Lillian Nice converting in the 13th minute on an assist from Carolyn Quandt to make it a 1-0 Raiders advantage.
Nice scored again in the 88th minute to put her team up 2-0, this time on a long pass from Jaclyn Brown to help set up the goal.
By the time Chambers was awarded her PK opportunity the Cougars were already in stoppage time, and there just wasn't enough time left to come all the way back. The goal was the fourth of the season for Chambers.
Canyons goalkeeper Aaliyah Lopez (1-2) took the loss in net.
The Cougars had a number of scoring opportunities and recorded 21 shots to go with 12 corners in the game.
Moorpark goalkeeper Erika Sanchez had seven saves in the contest.
COC will next travel to face Chaffey College at 2 p.m. on Friday.
