SBCC was seeded No. 2 for the CCCAA Women's Water Polo State Championships and the defending state champions will battle Sierra in a rematch of last year's state final. The Vaqueros beat the Wolverines of Rocklin 8-6 to win their first state crown last year.

Santa Barbara is the No. 2 seed from the South with a 30-3 record. They'll square off against North No. 1 Sierra (27-2) on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at West Valley College in Saratoga.

SBCC beat the Wolverines earlier this year 8-4 in the semifinals of Long Beach's Battle at the Beach on Oct. 20. Sierra and Santa Barbara are tied for fourth in state offense with both averaging 12.6 goals per game.

Fifth-year coach Chuckie Roth has guided the Vaqueros to a sparkling 94-8 record (.922) the last three years with a state runner-up in 2016 and a state title last year.

The Vaqueros feature the state's top scorer in Emma Fraser. The sophomore from Victoria, British Columbia set a school record with 120 goals this year and has 206 in her two-year career. She was the MVP of last year's state championships.

Sierra has the state's top goalie in Danielle Brown, who leads the state in saves (272) and goals-against average (3.5).

Fullerton (28-2) is the No. 1 seed from the South and they'll meet North No. 2 San Joaquin Delta (21-10) in Friday's second semifinal at 1 p.m.

The championship is set for Saturday at noon and the third-place game will be played at 9:30 a.m.
