Falcons split two at American River

Taking advantage of a break in the endless wet weather, Folsom Lake visited American River on Friday afternoon for a Big 8 Conference doubleheader and split the pair, winning 4-3 and losing 4-2.  In game one, the Falcons and Beavers were scoreless through four innings before the Falcons rallied for two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, the big hit being shortstop Jessi Lawhorn's first home run of the season.  Falcon pitcher Gigi Mendez was on her game, shutting out the Beavers until the seventh inning, when they took advantage of a Falcon fielding error to score three runs.  Still, Mendez managed to close the door and preserve the 4-3 victory, allowing just five hits and one earned run to earn the win.

In game two, the Beavers scored solo runs in the second and fourth innings, but the Falcons responded by tying the score with two runs in the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles by Jessi Lawhorn and Hannah Harvey.  The Beavers responded with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth, then shut down the Falcons over the final two innings for a 4-2 final score.
