The MSJC men's tennis team improved to 2-1 on the year as they defeated Orange Coast College 6-3 on Friday in a non-conference home match.

The men's tennis team returned to action on Friday hosting Orange Coast College Pirates.  The Eagles earned a hard-fought 6-3 victory in the non-conference match. All three doubles matches were very close and could have gone either way.  In the end, Orange Coast took two of the three doubles matches, with the number one team of Fermin Blando and Julian Valencia scoring an impressive come from behind win 9-8.  When the singles round began, the Eagles really started to heat up, ultimately taking 5 of the 6 matches.  Freshmen Fermin Blando, Fernando Arguello, and Isaac Morales, all scored straight set wins. Sophomores, Ashton Vega and Cody Rodriguez both posted impressive come from behind three set victories.

"I was really happy with how I was able to get up on my opponent early in the match and I kept him from being able to fight his way back in," said  Isaac Morales.

Coach Cory Page added; "Orange Coast got off to a fast start in the doubles but we were able to bounce back in singles and really turn the match around.  I was really pleased with how we dictated a lot of the points. It was also great to see our guys not give up when they got down early.  The match was a lot closer than the score indicated. OCC has a very solid team and the scored could've easily been flipped."
