The West Valley beach volleyball team welcomed the return of sunny skies with a pair of Coast Conference wins Friday at Main Beach in Santa Cruz. The Vikings (4-7, 3-1 Coast) blanked Hartnell (5-5, 3-3) 5-0 in the opener and then battled past Monterey Peninsula (4-5, 2-2) 4-1 in the afternoon match. Vikings 1's Flor Porras/Kiana Manson, 2's Sydney Rogers/Devin Derecho and 3's Alex Franklin/Taylor Vales all won both matches, while WVC 4's Gabrielle Carbonel/Sydney Pista and 5's Maggie Carroll/Amelie Moya swept their Hartnell matches.

The opener saw West Valley straight-set sweep all five matches against the Panthers, while the WVC match with the Lobos featured epic three-set, reverse-sweep Viking victories from Porras/Manson in the 1's and Rogers/Derecho in the 2's.

The Vikings hit the courts again March 24 when they host College of San Mateo (1-6, 1-3) at 10am and Cabrillo (6-1, 3-0) at noon at the West Valley Beach Volleyball Complex in a pair of key Coast Conference contests.
