Mt. SAC Women's Soccer

(Palm Desert, CA) With the Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team trailing by a goal in the second half, they scored two late goals to come away with a thrilling 3-2 nonconference win at the College of the Desert Wednesday afternoon, September 11.

The Roadrunners took an early 1-0 lead in the third minute, but late in the opening half(38th minute), midfielder Jessica Helmick passed the ball across the top of the 18-yard box to forward Viviana Ortega in the center of the field. Ortega turned with the ball and took a shot at the top of the net for the tying goal (1-1).

Less than five minutes (49th minute) into the second half COD again took the lead, 2-1.

Then, in the 67th minute, with some of the Mt. SAC players causing confusion in front of the Roadrunners goal keeper, Hannah Grady scored (unassisted) off of a free kick after she was fouled just past the half line. That tied the game at 2-2 and the heroics would follow 14 minutes later from Wade.

"Hannah was important in this game, winning most 50/50 balls and being a power house in the middle," Mt. SAC Women's Soccer coach Kristen Purper said.

Late in the second half, Jessica Barksdale dribbled in through the defenders to connect with Mia Wade in the 81st minute, for the game winning goal (3-2).

As a team Mt. SAC took an astonishing 36 shots (18 SOG), with Grady leading the way with 10 (5 SOG), followed by Ortega with seven, Liani Sanchez with six and forward Kin Spencer three.

Mt. SAC goalie Jacqueline Botello (4 saves) earned the win.

Mt. SAC will host the College of Nevada on Saturday September 15 at 7:30 pm.
