Cats have fun in Santa Ana

The Saddleback women's soccer team won their fifth straight game on Tuesday with a 5-0 win at Santa Ana College.  The Bobcats tied a season high in goals while improving to 3-0 in Orange Empire Conference play.

It seems like a long time ago when Saddleback was struggling to score goals and create good scoring chances.  The Bobcats have been scoring in buckets in recent weeks and filled up the cylinder on Tuesday.

Saddleback scored five goals in the opening half in blowing past the Dons.  Kylie Beu opened the scoring with her fourth goal of the season in the sixth minute as the Bobcats took a 1-0 lead.  Lizbeth De Loera scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season two minutes later off a pass from Beu and Saddleback was off and running.  Two minutes after that, Samantha Villasenor got involved in the scoring with her first goal of the season and Saddleback had a 3-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the contest.  Abby Grabowski added goals in the 17th and 21st minute off passes from Emma Radzai and Chloe Green as the Bobcats ran out of claws on one paw before the halfway point.  Grabowski now has three goals in the past three games after going scoreless in the first seven contests.

Saddleback held a 15-1 advantage in total shots at the intermission, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-0 lead in corner kicks.

Saddleback took advantage of the big lead in emptying out the bench in the second half.  The Bobcats played 26 players in the game, wearing out a small lineup for Santa Ana.

Olivia Wynn started in goal and played all 90 minutes for Saddleback in picking up her first victory of the season.  Wynn had three saves on the afternoon as Saddleback recorded its sixth shutout of the season, and third straight in Orange Empire Conference play.

Saddleback will play again on Friday when they host Fullerton College inside the Saddleback Stadium.  Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
