Women’s Basketball Ignites in Second Half, Torches Golden West

It was an eight-point game at the start of the third quarter with the Riverside City College women's basketball team holding the slim advantage. After a slow start that saw Riverside and the Golden West College Rustlers trade blow-for-blow in the first half, it was all Riverside in the second half as they Tigers boat raced the Rustlers by the final score of 89-60.

Riverside dominated the board which set them apart from the Rustlers. The Tiger hauled in a season-high 72 rebounds while allowing Golden West to amass a mere 35. This mark led to 42 points in the paint. The Tigers pushed the ball on transition for 16 fast break points contributing to a 40.5 shooting percentage from the floor.

Six players recorded at least seven rebounds with freshman forward Asia Anderson leading the pack with a career-high 16 boards. She was one bucket away from a double-double. The backcourt of sophomore Trinity Vasquez and freshman Rebecca London needed two rebounds each to record a double-double. Vasquez was the contest's top scorer with 23 points and nearly recorded a triple-double with seven assists. London finished with 16 points.

Freshman Regenus Gates continued to play well by recording her third-consecutive double-digit scoring game after flushing 13 points accompanied by seven rebounds and a set of assists. Freshman guard Ariane Madlambayan dropped eight points and racked up eight boards in 17 minutes played.

The Tigers (10-6, 2-1 OEC) will continue action at home on Friday, February 17 against the Fullerton College Hornets at 5 p.m. Watch live on "Riverside Athletics" YouTube channel.
