PASADENA - Taylor Roberts allowed only four hits and three runs, all unearned, and the Marauder softball team couldn't get its bats going as Pasadena City defeated AVC, 3-0, Friday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.
The Marauders could only muster four hits, one each by Valerie Dorantes, Samantha Arriola, Roberts and Alexis Robles. Pasadena's Angel Wintercorn picked up the win, while keeping AVC hitters off balance. She finished with seven strikeouts.
AVC's best scoring opportunity came in the top of the sixth inning after two consecutive hits by Arriola and Roberts, putting runners on first and third. However, the Marauders could not plate any runners. The Lancers responded in the bottom half of the sixth inning by scoring two runs and extending their lead to 3-0.
AVC will host Mt. SAC on Tuesday in its home opener. The Mounties reached the state championship before falling to Cypress.
