Women's Soccer Wins Home Opener

Last year, the Reedley College women's soccer team didn't record its second win of the 2018 season until Oct. 2.

On Tuesday, Sept. 3, the Lady Tigers scored two late goals to record a 3-1 victory over the 0-1 Cabrillo College Seahawks at Tiger Field in Reedley. The win improved head coach Onesta Francis' squad to 2-1 going into a 4 pm home match with Cuesta College.

In the Tuesday match, Cabrillo opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. Reedley tied it just before halftime on a goal by Sabrina Cabrera (Dos Palos) on an assist from Itali Pineda (Orange Cove).

Kalese Sunamoto (Reedley) scored the game-winner in the 89th minute on an assist from Adrianna Luna (Kingsburg). In the final minute, Destiny Gonzalez (Coalinga) made it 3-1 on an assist from Sumiko Sunamoto (Reedley).

Tiger goalie Sarah Cabrera (Dos Palos) was credited with five saves while Cabrillo goalie  Sophia Magliato had 18 saves, 14 in the first half.
