Mt. SAC Men’s Water Polo finishes third in SCC Championships with 23-11 win over El Camino

(Long Beach, CA) After a close loss to Cerritos College in the South Coast Conference Tournament semifinals, the Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo team rebounded with a resounding, 23-11, win to take third place on Saturday (Nov. 5) at Long Beach City College.

With the win, the Mounties improved to 15-14 overall. 

Up next is the CCCAA Southern California Regionals on Thursday (Nov. 10). The game will be a rematch with No. 8 Seed Cerritos College, which defeated the No. 9 Seed Mounties, 12-11, in the SCC semifinals.

The winner will face top seed Golden West (22-3) on Friday (Nov. 11), who are the CCCAA defending state champions.

In the win over El Camino, freshman utility Brandon Fabrega (7 shots, 7 steals) led the Mounties with five goals. Fabrega is fourth in the state with 103 goals and third in steals with 85.

Second in goals scored was sophomore center defender Aidan Murphy (6 shots) with four goals, followed by Jude Solis and Zack Ewing with three goals each. Marcus Robles, Trevor Ingersoll and John Samaan with two goals, along with Jasper Wang and Charlie Peralta with one each.

Ewing has 83 steals and 43 goals and state leader goalie Noah Stark had 330 saves.

The Mounties took a 14-4 halftime lead and never looked back for the win.
