Bulldogs Top LA Pierce in Conference Opener

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's soccer program topped LA Pierce, 2-1, in their first Western State Conference matchup of the season.

The Bulldogs (3-4-1) got on the board first when Emely Graciliano Sanchez connected on a pass down the right side of the field from Alivia Valdez, netting the first goal of the game in the 28th minute. LA Pierce (5-2-2) evened the score in the final seconds of the opening frame after a header pass led to an open goal as time ran out. Brianna Gaona registered the game-winning goal in the 64th minute after capitalizing on a shot from Hope Smith that rebounded off the crossbar, leading to an open net.

Hancock was outshot by a slim 12-10 margin, but both teams were even with six shots on target apiece. Gaona and Smith led the Bulldogs with three shots each. Graciliano Sanchez followed after recording two while Valdez and Bianca Castaneda notched one attempt each. Ally Britt collected the win in the box after nabbing five saves through 90 minutes of action.

Coach Vinnedge's squad is set to return continue league action on Tuesday, October 5th, with a home showing against Ventura College. The match is set to begin at 4 PM on the AHC Soccer Field.
