KNIGHTS TAKE FIFTH AT CHABOT CLASSIC

HAYWARD, Calif. – Shasta College's men's basketball team won two of three games to finish fifth at the Chabot Gladiator Classic over the weekend.

The Knights lost the opener to host Chabot 75-55 before beating West Hills 84-62 and edging Feather River 72-69 in the consolation final.

In the 20-point loss to Chabot, the Knights outscored the Gladiators 32-20 in the second half after trailing by 22 at intermission. Simmer Singh was the lone Shasta player in double figures with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting and Shasta had 11 players scored in the game. The Knights shot 3-of-24 from 3-point range (13 percent) and was 10-of-21 (48 percent) from the free throw line. Singh's six rebounds led the team.

Shasta also beat West Hills by 18, stats were not reported.

In the three-point win over Feather River, the Knights trailed by two at half but surged with a 43-point second half. Four Shasta starters were in double figures: Derek Gorden (20), Zach Thompson (17), Singh (17) and Michael Plunkitt (10). Thompson added six assists, Plunkitt pitched in with five steals and Singh grabbed seven boards.

Shasta is 3-2 overall and plays in the Diablo Valley Tournament Friday.
