SHASTA COLLEGE SAVES WEEK WITH 1-0 WIN OVER REDWOODS

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's men's soccer team split its Golden Valley Conference matches last week, beat College of the Redwoods 1-0 on the road Friday following a 6-2 loss to Lake Tahoe College the final home game of the year on Tuesday.

In the win, Stephen Darkwa set up Santiago Valera for a goal in the 68th minute for the match's lone score. Shasta had six shots on goal – two each from Giovanni Antonio Garcia Cortez and Ivan Saavedra and one apiece from Miguel Ortiz III and Valera. Adam Nichols recorded nine saves in the cleansheet, the third time this season he didn't allow a goal.

Shasta was tied at half against Lake Tahoe College but surrendered four goals in a 13-minute stretch in the second half. Giovanni Antonio Garcia Cortez and Valera each assisted a Jose Antonio Hinojosa goal. Ortiz III had a pair of shots on goal as did Hinojosa. Nichols had 12 saves in goal.

Shasta is 4-6-1 in GVC action and 5-8-1 overall and plays its final match of the year Tuesday at College of the Siskiyous.
